Do you want your wedding to be memorable, if not legendary? So are they really psyched for your bridesmaids? Watches make great gifts in part because they represent time and relationships and are also associated with nostalgia and heirlooms. It’s a great way to make the most of your big day.
Your bridesmaids are going to get a watch to commemorate your wedding, but how do you choose the right one? We are here to help.
How much should you spend?
We don’t know your budget, but we know you already have a lot of other costs and logistics to consider. And, of course, multiple watches really add up. So we want to make gifting your bridesmaid watches as reasonable as possible – and happily, Rolex has some great options that don’t cost as much. (Don’t stop us if you’re having a blow-out destination wedding and rollies seem appropriate in your budget.) Many of the watches below are quartz, if that’s your thing, and are also available in more expensive mechanical versions. .
Weddings are all about dressing up – that’s part of the fun. So we’re going to steer you away from heavy and bulky watches (which we usually do anyway), but also sport watches. A certain level of formality is appropriate even for relatively casual weddings, and for that you want a dress watch: casual, understated and under 40mm or thereabouts.
There are many more options to consider. Since the style of watches is often coordinated, you can choose dial and strap colors to match. If you have light blue suits/tuxes, a white dial and brown strap (like the Junghans shown below) is a dead-on. If you go for watches with bracelets, be sure to give your bridesmaids a fair amount of time before the wedding — or offer an extra leather strap for them to exchange.
Go for engraving
If there was ever a time to go for a commemorative watch engraving, watches for your bridesmaids are probably it. Many of the watches below feature solid steel casebacks with plenty of room for personalization. Some watches come with engraving options from the brand, but it’s also easy to find this service from a third party.
We suggest something subtle. “Rodney & Veronica’s Wedding, Annapolis, MD, June 4, 2022,” for example, might be okay for laser-etched wine glasses or something similar in curly calligraphy, but the owner of the watch should think it’s his. For example, a wedding date, someone else’s name and special day can serve to tastefully remind the watch of its importance without being too in-your-face.
Every wedding is unique, but the selections below may suit you well or inspire you to find the perfect watches for the occasion.
A cheap and easy way to dress up your bridesmaids’ wrists, the Weekender is an absolute classic. It’s also customizable, so you can order the perfect combination of dial, strap and other elements to perfectly complement your wedding style.
