The Grand Seiko Sports collection Offers a wide variety of sports watches that offer clarity and durability, from dive watches to chronographs to watches with GMT capability. The entire collection has some similarities in terms of design, but each carries its own unique flare. Two of the latest additions to the collection do much the same, with the black dial SBGN027 and blue SBGN029 being two particularly sporty travel models.
The new timepieces are previous quartz-powered iterations of the brand’s venerable sports travel design, notably including the Grand Seiko 9F86 Quartz GMT that debuted in 2018, among others.
On the wrist, both new models feature a 39mm steel case with a classic hairline finish using Grand Seiko’s sharp zaratsu-polishing technique. The case is simple in size but sturdy in wear, with a fixed 24-hour bezel with engraved markers, a screw-down crown at the four o’clock position and substantial 19mm, tapering lugs. The base models of each reference are fitted with a steel bracelet flush with the case material.
Underneath the sapphire glass, the alternate dials of the two models are on display. With the SBGN027, you’ll find a black sunray dial with subtle white-grey highlights on the indexes and hands, while the SBGN029 sports a blue sunray look with a red GMT hand and GMT lettering. Outside of the color and accent, the configuration of the two is identical, with two dials featuring an outer 24-hour ring divided between night and day, a 4-hour date window and crisp, applied hour markers with matching hands, each accented with Lumibrite for their lume material.
Inside the watches, the Grand Seiko caliber 9F86 drives their operation. The high precision mechanism is accurate to +/- 10 seconds per year and maintains a battery life of three years.
The new Grand Seiko SBGN027 and SBGN029 watches are available now at the brand directly and through authorized shops, priced at $3,300.
