The partnership between TAG Heuer and Porsche has been a source of inspiration for the brand since it officially furthered its long-standing relationship with the German sports car behemoth in early 2021. With multiple successful references in the Carrera and connected lines, the TAG Heuer x Porsche collaboration shows no signs of slowing down, and for its latest co-branded release TAG Heuer pays homage to the most important of them all, the Porsche 911. First introduced in 1972, the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was developed in response to the original 911’s impressive performance in racing competition. This “race car for the road” instantly restored the 911’s reputation in Group 4 sports car racing, while reinventing the 911 platform as one of the most effective roadgoing performance cars on earth – now complete with the iconic Carrera side stripe and ducktail spoiler. The new limited edition TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 line combines the familiar Carrera silhouette with clean, sporty new colorways, with racy and distinctive touches that immediately set these models apart from the pack.
Available in stainless steel or 18K 5N rose gold, the 42mm-wide polished case of the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 largely follows the pattern of the current Carrera line. The line’s signature inwardly faced lugs, narrow polished smooth bezel and strong piston-style pushers are all familiar to fans of the brand here, but the Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 stands out on the case side at 9 o’clock. The stainless steel model takes the bolder approach of the pair, with a lacquered accent strip in vibrant blue from lug to lug. Both the color and the rounded Carrera script are lifted directly from the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7, and here the integration serves to sharply highlight the contours of the case and the sloping retreat of the lugs. It’s a clear and undeniably bold addition that suits everyone’s tastes, but the positioning at 9 o’clock helps to hide this design from most angles, especially when worn with long sleeves. This helps make the strip a defining visual feature and more of a conversation piece, to be revealed at the right time during discussions with fellow enthusiasts. With that said, TAG Heuer adds matching blue accents to the crown and 10 o’clock pusher, which helps give the design a bit more visual punch when viewed from different angles. In contrast, the rose gold variant offers a subtler, more refined variation on the theme. Instead of lacquering the stripe on the side of the case, the brand has engraved the stripe directly into the case itself. Coupled with a contrasting brushed finish within the engraved segment, this technique gives the case a wealth of visual depth that adds significantly to the overall quality on the wrist. As with the standard Carrera, TAG Heuer fits these models with sapphire display casebacks and rates them for 100 meters of water resistance.
The TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 Line dials perfectly balance dynamic color with a clean, straight presentation. For the stainless steel model, the TAG Heuer case continues the blue motif with pops of cobalt blue against an optic white opaline base dial. Accents like the contrast ring around the applied indices, blue outer minutes scale and blue central seconds hand give this design a more sporting character than the standard 42mm Carrera, but the 3 o’clock chronograph minutes subdial steals the show. the wrist The elevated outer scale is here very simple and graphic, alternating one-minute blocks of blue and white to form a full 30-minute register. TAG Heuer is no stranger to color-blocked chronograph scales, but the execution here stands out for its cleanliness, simplicity and measured use of color. The addition of azure in the center of the subdials at both 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock helps visually break up the wide negative space of the main dial surface, while lending a greater sense of complexity to the overall design. Like the standard Carrera, the Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 reduces its 6 o’clock running seconds subdial to a minimalist crosshair pattern intersected by a 6 o’clock date window. Another oddity here is the use of Porsche-style Carrera branding, but subtle enough to go unnoticed by uninitiated observers. In addition to paying homage to the historic 911 model, the colors of this unique dial hearken back to the venerable Heuer Autovia “Siffert” on the wrist for a double dose of vintage racing flair. TAG Heuer gives the rose gold model much the same look, but replaces the blue accents for matching highlights in Porsche’s famous Guards Red hue. While it complements the rose gold handset and dial hardware nicely on the wrist, this aggressive red gives the design a surprisingly feminine cast when compared to its stainless steel counterpart.
TAG Heuer has equipped the Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 with its in-house Heuer 02 automatic chronograph movement. The Heuer 02 has become the brand’s de facto flagship movement over the past few years, making its way into the majority of TAG Heuer’s high-end chronograph offerings. The performance of the Heuer 02 certainly backs this up, with a column wheel and vertical clutch chronograph actuation system as well as an 80-hour power reserve at a beat rate of 28,800 bph. The finish of the Heuer 02 is attractive but overall restrained, with a bold, stylized skeleton rotor inspired by the wide Côtes de Genève over skeleton bridges and modern Porsche 911 steering wheels.
TAG Heuer fits both Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 models with different strap options. The rose gold variant offers a more classical look, pairing the watch with a deep red alligator leather strap with a matching 18K 5N rose gold pin buckle. For the stainless steel model, TAG Heuer offers an eye-catching bespoke NATO strap instead. The strap continues the blue-on-white Carrera stripe theme, complete with unique engraved Porsche-branded hardware. It’s a decidedly simple look, but fits the overall design well. For a less conspicuous feel, wearers can also opt for the included stainless steel H-link bracelet.
With bold visual touches, absolutely gorgeous color palettes and stunning performance, the limited edition TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 line stands as the most dynamic collaboration between the two brands to date. Only 500 examples of the stainless steel TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 will be made, while the rose gold model will be limited to 250 units. MSRP is current for stainless steel and rose gold variants $7,400 USD And $23,550 USDrespectively. For more information, please visit Brand’s website.
