Fratello watches, our fellow Dutch (originated at least) watch platform, has once again delivered a stunning limited edition. In partnership with the inventor of the chronograph, Louis Moinet, Fratello chose to put together the latest chapter in the brand’s long and record-setting lineage of the chronograph watch. Thanks to Jean-Marie Schaller, founder and owner of the current Louis Moinet, Mémoires has been kept alive from the beginning to the latest. As a result, with a subtle Dutch twist, the two teams collaborated on a 25-piece watch called the Fratello x Louis Moinet Mémoires Spirit 40 Chronograph Limited Edition.
Louis Moinet is credited with creating the first mechanical chronograph and high-frequency stopwatch in 1816. It was certified by the Guinness World Records Association and serves as an inspiration to Louis Moinet to this day. The spirit of the historic monopusher chronograph appears in the Mémoires and Mémoires Spirit collections, with a large single pusher and signature dial layout with an off-centered hours and minutes sub-dial and main dial dominated by a chronograph display.
The Fratello x Louis Moinet Mémoires Spirit 40 Chronograph uses the platform of the recently presented compact version of the Mémoires. A redesigned case has also arrived, with the size reduced from a hefty 46mm to a wrist-friendly 40.7mm. The Memoris Spirit looks cleaner, more modern and dynamic compared to its (much) bigger brother. The domed sapphire crystal leaves no room for a bezel and opens up the dial as much as possible. Other retouches include skeletonized lugs and more refined crown guards.
With the introduction of Mémoires Spirit, Fratello took the opportunity to use it as a platform for their collaboration with Louis Moinet. The two teams worked closely on this limited edition, with only minor changes to distinguish it from the standard collection. Small, but with surprising effect! A deep blue base serves as the canvas for the chronograph mechanism, which is surrounded by a black minute bezel with an orange track. The lower half of the “dial” features a two-part hour and minute sub-dial in black, with an orange ring, white numerals, and applied silver indexes and hands. Above that, we once again see sapphire crystal sub-dials for the small seconds and chronograph minutes. The orange color, RAL 2005, by the way, continues on the central chronograph seconds and off-set chronograph minute hands. Other details include “00” instead of “60” on the outer minute track and a small silver seconds to visually divide the timing and chronograph displays.
On the back, a sapphire crystal reveals the proprietary LM84 automatic chronograph movement. Although not technically different from the standard models, the Fratello rotor is finished in black with a subtle orange tint around the guilloche pattern and fleur de lys decoration. The movement uses 311 components and runs at a frequency of 28,800vph, while offering 48 hours of autonomy.
The Fratello x Louis Moinet Mémoires Spirit 40 Chronograph comes on a matte black calfskin leather strap with crocodile-effect embossing. The triple-folding clasp is made in the shape of the fleur de lys, Louis Moinet logo. Only 25 pieces and exclusively produced Available through the Fratello webshop From August 16 at 6 AM CET, it costs EUR 29,500 (excluding tax).
