Do you suffer from Galeophobia?
If you do; You have Jaws creator Peter Benchley to thank for your fear of sharks, thanks to his portrayal of the great white shark as a diabolical, vengeful beast.
In fact the great whites are the ones we should be most afraid of, the shark culling, shark fin soup guzzling men. Fortunately, great white numbers are slowly increasing with the help of conservation initiatives like ‘Shark Trust’ as well as brands like Ulysse Nordin.
In honor of Shark Week and the launch of the new Diver Chrono Great White, the UN announced its growing support for shark conservation programs and a new fleet of partners:
Donate 1% for the Planet, pledging to donate 1% of annual sales of all “Shark Watches” to support non-profit organizations focused on sharks.
In partnership with SHARKTRUST, the leading European shark conservation charity, is actively working to reform, through legislation and effective conservation measures, unsustainable and unmanaged fisheries and the supply chain that drives global consumption of shark products.
And adding a brand new friend to the family – the new “Ulysses” – is Mike Coots, a Hawaii native who lost his right leg in a tiger shark attack at age 18 while bodyboarding.
Mike soon realized the importance of conservation and became an advocate for protecting sharks in an effort to maintain balance in the ecosystem.
Celebrating a new community of sharks; With friends and partners including world-renowned shark experts, divers, universities and non-profits, the UN unveils a shark-themed limited edition 44mm Dive Chrono with some extra bite!
The new Diver 44mm Chronograph has a sandblasted and satin-finish titanium case and features a white, unidirectional, rotating, rubberized bezel.
It is equipped with the Caliber UN-150 self-winding movement; The clock works thanks to revolutionary silicon technology pioneered by the UN.
It has a 30-minute counter, 12-hour counter and a small second counter with date, escapement wheel, anchor & balance spring in silicon.
Blue and white accents adorn the gray dial. Below the Ulysse Nardin logo appears the lettering “GREAT WHITE”.
And the silhouette of the animal is the key signature of the white rubber strap – the gray color of the dial is reminiscent of shark skin.
A concave bezel with domed sapphire glass creates an elegant look designed for those who take it as a personal challenge to explore the depths of the ocean.
Designed to withstand a depth of 300 meters, the new diver’s watch lives up to its name in an undersea environment.
The Diver Chronograph 44mm Limited Edition Great White follows a long tradition of Shark-named diver watches, including the Women’s Great White Diver launched in 2019.
It is available in a limited series of only 300 pieces. 1% of the proceeds from sales of this watch will be donated to the planet to be supported by non-profit organizations focused on sharks.
The new Diver Chrono Great White Limited Edition watch has a Swiss MSRP of 12’850 CHF.
Thoughts? With over a decade of working with shark conservationists, UN has established itself as a Swiss luxury shark watch brand. I love a good Shark watch and this one is no different – big thumbs up.
