Time…reconstructed, represented in a three-dimensional manner and without hands. This is the mission of Trilobe Une Folle Journey. Trilobe is a young French independent brand first conceived in 2013, which released its first watch in 2018. A new way to represent time. Conceptual, different, slightly poetic and with clear watchmaking skills behind it. The founder of the brand, Gautier Massonno, son of an architect, decided to go beyond classic hands. First appeared with two clocks, “Les Matinaux” and “Nuit Fantastique”, using three separated discs to indicate the hours, minutes and seconds. Now, with the new Trilobe Une Folle Journey, the brand adds boldness and visible mechanics to the equation.
Trilobe’s first watches were certainly original in terms of display, but on the classic, elegant side when it came to the design of the cases and dials. This is no longer the case with the brand’s latest creation, a strong evolution of the concept. More complex, more structured, more modern and with a hideous dial… NOTHING! While Les Matinaux used discs inserted into the dial with a flat display, the Trilobe Une Folle Journey got rid of the base dial and now offers a display based on the still unusual, rotating discs, although these now float on the base plate. and space out the view on the mechanics underneath.
And instead of a flat profile, the entire watch is now domed. The display still has three centered indications, the hours at the edge, then the minutes and finally, in the middle, the seconds. Overall, the concept has a bit of MBandF, but also Trilobe’s usual personality. Now, the discs are projected into the air due to the columns attached to the wheels underneath.
