Watch time New York 2022 It’s now less than two weeks until the exciting horological event returns to Gotham Hall in midtown Manhattan on October 21-23 for its seventh annual event. Joined by industry experts and expert panelists, this is a great opportunity for guests to get an insider experience with the year’s most coveted releases from over 30 participating brands.
Bringing it up Luna Magna is a platinum meteor This year’s Watchtime New York model is a Swiss watchmaker Arnold & Son. The cosmic-inspired reference is to the original Luna Magna released last year. With a spherical representation of the moon on the dial, Arnold & Son experimented with unusual materials, textures and designs for a brand new reference.
On the wrist, the cool-toned watch is supported by an elegant rounded silhouette and secured by a hand-stitched, gray alligator leather strap. The exterior of the watch is made of platinum, with a diameter of 44 mm and a height of 15.9 mm. The subdued precious metal shine of the case transforms into an anti-reflective sapphire on the reverse, where the inner workings of the watch are revealed.
Inspired by the “ever-changing moon”, Arnold & Son chose a meteorite material from the octahedrite class for the dial. The material is treated with a PVD gray-beige coating, revealing jagged, crisscrossing structures that create a textured, geometric backdrop for the dial.
The spherical moon at the 6 o’clock position, made of sand-colored meteorite and Caholong opal, is the true focal point and rotates to reflect the sky in real time. The main time dial at 12 o’clock has a white opal backdrop with blue hands above. Both the opaline side of the lunar globe and the time dial are coated in Super-LumiNova, which glows blue-green in the dark.
Inside the case, Arnold & Son chose the manual winding, mechanical caliber A&S1021. The mechanism is specially designed to include a lunar globe visible through the exhibition caseback. Above the lunar globe on the caseback side is a secondary display that indicates the age of the moon relative to its cycle with clear markings designed for ease of precise adjustments. Time and moon phase correction is possible via an easy-to-operate crown at the 3 o’clock position.
The Arnold & Son Luna Magna Platinum Meteorite retails for CHF 70,900 including tax (approximately $71,600) via the brand’s website. The watch is a limited edition of 28 pieces.
